In spoken Spanish especially, the verbs comprar and pedir tend to be used pronominally when the person buys/orders sth for themselves. In English we tend to assume it's for oneself unless stated otherwise. [See also comer vs. comerse]
-Me he comprado un coche nuevo — I've bought (myself) a new car
-Se compraba todos los últimos álbumes — He would buy all the latest albums
→Le compraba todos los últimos álbumes — He would buy (him) all the latest albums (off him) [Posiblemente ambiguo: véase comprarle algo a alguien]
-Me pedí un whisky — I ordered a whisky
-Se pidió una Coca Cola — He ordered/asked for a Coke
