¡venga ya!
Venga, the third-person singular subjunctive form of venir, is one of the most commonly used interjections in conversational Spanish in Spain.
It can be used in a wide range of situations, including:
1. To express agreement and approval.1
-Vamos al pub. ¿Te apuntas? -Venga — -We're going to the pub. Are you up for it? -OK then
-(Hablando por teléfono) -Pues, nos vemos mañana -Venga, hasta luego — -Well, see you tomorrow -Right then, see you later
-¿Podemos tomar una más? -Venga, pero que sea la última — Can we have one more? -All right, go on. But it better be the last
→Vale, pero que sea la última
→→Dale, pero sea la última [En Argentina]
2. To encourage or hurry someone.2
-¡Venga, vamos! — Come on, let's go!
-Dúchate rápido. Venga. Que llegamos tarde ya — Shower quickly. Come on. We're running late
-Déjame verlo, venga — Go on, let me see it
3. Often used with ya to express disbelief, rejecting what someone else has said.3
-¿Y sabes lo que me dijo? Me dijo que yo era especial -¡Venga ya! — -And you know what he said? He said I was special -Yeah right!
-Lo siento tío, pero tendrás que pagármelo -¡Venga ya! Me estás tomando el pelo, ¿verdad?— -Sorry mate, but you'll have to pay me for that -Come off it! You're pulling my leg. Right?
